ALL Students Count at Ravenna Schools
Not Just Ones in a Special Curriculum
Gifted – Dedicated teachers within the schools instruct gifted students, allowing them to maintain community with all of their classmates. We’re looking forward to leveraging even MORE results from this program: Beginning in Fall 2020, we will bring together grade levels across the school system so that classmates can bond and learn together.
- Carlin will become home to our preschool (first floor) with central offices and special services (second floor)
- West Park will remain the kindergarten building
- Willyard, the building for first- and second-graders system-wide
- West Main, the building for third- and fourth-graders system-wide
- Brown Middle School will be home to all fifth graders system-wide as well as 6-8 graders
Bringing together classes into single buildings can result in these benefits:
Increased services for students in our Gifted and Special Needs programs.
Teachers in our Gifted and Special Needs programs currently travel from one school building to the next, often repeating instruction to students at the same level who happen to be at different buildings.
Our new plan will eliminate much of that building-to-building travel. With more students grouped together, teachers will spend less time on the road and more time teaching.
R.I.S.E. – (Ravenna Intervention School for Exceptional Students)
R.I.S.E. is a program within our district for Brown Middle School and Ravenna High School students in need of special services. Students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, emotional disorders, and other conditions have the opportunity to stay in their own community, participate in their own school, and be connected to their own class. Learn more about R.I.S.E. including our facilities, amenities, and programs.
Preschool
Our 5-Star Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) rating from the state is the best any school can earn. Ravenna Preschool gives about 140 of our youngest students the opportunity to learn and play together in a stimulating setting. The language, math, problem-solving and social skills established in preschool lays the groundwork for each child’s success. As needed, they receive speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other services necessary to help them address challenges and disabilities. All teachers are state certified.
These are just a few of our many individualized programs – all within our one district!
